Winter With My Pets: A Season of Sun‑Basking, Sneezes, Drama and Warmth

Winter hits our house and suddenly all my pets reveal their true personalities. Some become dramatic, some become strategic, and some… honestly don’t even acknowledge the concept of cold.

Sherlock: My Crocodile in the Sun

Sherlock doesn’t just enjoy winter sunshine — he depends on it like a reptile. The moment a sunbeam appears, he stretches out long and low, limbs splayed, eyes half‑closed, fully committed to his crocodile cosplay. If the sun moves, he moves. If it disappears, he looks betrayed. Sherlock is solar‑powered and proud.

Tommy: My Sneezy Little Cinnamon Roll

Tommy curls himself into the tightest little ball, like a cinnamon bun with whiskers. But this winter he started sneezing far more than any cat should. One sneeze? Cute. Ten sneezes? Concerning.

So I bought him a knitted sweater. And it worked. He became a warm, wool‑wrapped dumpling, and the sneezing finally eased. I felt like a genius mum for solving the mystery.

Lily: The Queen Who Rejects Sweaters (But Not Warmth)

I took one look at Lily — short hair, slim build — and decided she must be cold. Naturally, I bought her a sweater. She despised it! She refused to walk normally. Refused to sit normally. She even managed to remove the sweater all by herself. The drama was Oscar‑worthy.

But Lily isn’t cold. Lily is one very clever bean. She has already mapped out the warmest places in the house. Her favourite? The kids’ rooms, heated to tropical levels. She slips in, curls up, and becomes a blissed‑out loaf in her personal paradise.

And when the kids are at school and her tropical resort is closed? She snuggles up to the next biggest heat source in the house — Sherlock. The queen always finds her throne.

Kobe: The Couch and Bed Connoisseur

Kobe’s winter strategy is simple: Find the biggest, warmest human furniture and claim it.

King‑size bed? Taken.
Big couch? Taken.
He doesn’t care which one — he just wants maximum comfort. Winter is basically his luxury season.

Louie: The Black Cat Who Absorbs All the Heat

Louie is a long‑haired fluff machine with water‑repellant fur — but that’s not even his biggest winter advantage. He’s a black cat, which means he absorbs sunlight like a solar panel. He’ll sit in a sunbeam and soak up every drop of warmth until he’s basically radiating heat like a tiny furnace.

Cold? He doesn’t know her.

The only way I can tell he’s even slightly chilly is when his ears feel cold. And even then, he doesn’t care. He’s built like a walking winter coat with built‑in heat absorption.

The Best Part: My Personal Heat Pack Squad
Despite their quirks, sweater rebellions, sun‑basking theatrics, furniture takeovers and strategic snuggling, winter gives me one perfect gift: They all become my personal heat packs. Whether they’re sitting next to me or sprawled on top of me, we keep each other warm. A pile of fur, warmth, and love — that’s winter in my home.

And honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
